About the National Nursing Archives of Australia (NNAA)
Our origins
In 1868, Florence Nightingale sent Lucy Osborn to Australian shores in response to an appeal for trained nurses from Henry Parkes, the Premier of NSW. This marked the inception of modern nursing in Australia. Since then, countless stories of dedication, compassion, and resilience have been woven into the fabric of our nation’s history. The National Nursing Archives of Australia were founded as a beacon to illuminate these tales and ensure they are never forgotten.
